There's a second part of this experiment. What if there were another bell? Two dogs. Two bells. One is the food it likes. The other is the food it puts up with. Eventually you'd ring the good food bell and it's dry food instead. The dog understands poverty. The other dog ring dry food bell with wet food poured in. The dog understands wealth. The third bell is secret.
